ATTRIBUTED TO
PIERRE ANTOINE LEMOYNE (LEMOINE)

1605 -1665
Oil on canvas 49 3/8 x 41 inches
Framed size 57 x 48 ΒΌ inches

Pierre Lemoyne was born in Paris in 1605.
Little has been known of this artist and his body of work until
quite recently.
He went on to become a painter of flowers, fruit and historical paintings.
Lemoyne entered the Academy on 1 August 1654.
In 1657 he received a commission to paint a series of decorative pictures for the house of Chancellor Pierre Seguier.

Works by Lemoyne (about four paintings signed to date) prove how he had the mastery of realism in painting fruit and a keen sense of observation, showing voluptuous fruit textures.

Lemoyne died in Paris on 19 August 1665.
