The rectangular champagne dial displays sunken gold baton style hour markers in addition to the text Eterna Matic, Centenaire and the five ball Eterna logo**.
This genuine Eterna automatic wrist watch is fitted with gold dauphine hands and a fine central seconds hand.
The subtly chamfered, plain, hallmarked caseback clearly displays the 18k 0.750 mark, the Helvetia Head mark, and the hammer head mark (for gold watches made in Switzerland outside Geneva).
This vintage watch is fitted with a Swiss made 21 jewels, Brevete movement calibre 1428U***.
This man's watch is fitted with a replacement Hirsch matte black croco-grain style watch strap with a gold coloured tang style catch: almost identical to the original used in the late 1950s and early 1960's.
* Eterna was founded by Josef Girard and Urs Schild in 1856, Grenchen, Canton Solothurn.
** In 1948, Eterna advanced self-winding watch technology with the development of the Eterna-matic automatic movement. The use of five strategically placed ball bearings made the movement very efficient, reducing both friction and resistance on the oscillating weight that wound the mainspring. This popular watch was possibly the most famous Eterna watch, and as a result, in 1948 Eterna adopted the image of five ball bearings as its corporate logo.
***Originally designed in 1956 for the Centenaire model, calibre 1428 U was a flagship creation built to celebrate one hundred years of the firm’s illustrious past, boasting anti-magnetic shielding and Eterna’s own ingenious shock resistance system, the presence of which is indicated by the calibre number being followed by the letter 'U'
