The surface of this large, impressive vintage cigar box is plain and unembellished with plain moulded decoration to the rim.
This sterling silver cigar box is fitted with a hallmarked hinged cover embellished with an engraved illustration of the cargo vessel/ship 'Baltic Jet'*.
The body of this exceptional box is fitted with the original cedar wood lining and dividers; this box can be refitted with a bespoke velvet jewellery box fitment upon request.
This German box is supported by four impressive cushion style feet.
The hallmarks struck to the underside of the box includes:
Maker's mark: Icon for Gottlieb Kurz
Silver quality/purity mark: 925 (925/1000, sterling)
National mark: Crescent moon and crown
By virtue of its size this versatile box could be used for a multitude of functions.
* This United Baltic Corporation Ltd ship was built by Krögerwerft GmbH, in Rendsburg Germany and launched on the 10th January 1959. The Baltic Jet was categorised as a refrigerated motor general cargo vessel and was in operation until February 1984.
