Rare original vintage travel poster for New York the Upper Bay from Lower Manhattan issued by the New York Central System featuring a fantastic image by Leslie Ragan (1897-1972) showing a scenic view over the buildings of New York with skyscrapers in the foreground leading over a green park on the waterfront towards the Statue of Liberty in the distance with ships and tugboats sailing in the harbour and a glow on the horizon, set within a border with the stylised title text below. The New York Central Railroad (NYC; 1853-1968) operated railway services in the North Eastern United States and in Ontario and Quebec in Canada; the company was based in the New York Central Building (built 1929; now named the Helmsley Building) next to Grand Central Terminal in New York City (Grand Central Station; opened 1871); a range of commercial artists were commissioned to design a series of posters for this marketing campaign aimed at displaying the natural landscapes and cities along the rail routes, which began in 1925 for the centennial celebrations. Very good condition, repaired tears in margins, creases.
