Jørgen Sedgwick was born in Copenhagen and was brought u there by his grandparents. His mother Inger, the “Voice of Denmark” worked in London at Bush House and broadcase to a Denmark under Nazi occupation. After the war Jørgen settled in London and studied at Rengent Street Polytechnic and Beckenham Schools of Art from 1948-1952. He taught in various colleges and art schools, including Central St Martin’s and Croydon College of Art and Design. Later he left London to live in East Anglia. He exhibited widely including at the Royal Academy, Royal Society of British Artists and Young Contemporaries

This early work of the interior of his London studio in Harold Road, Crystal Palace, shows his strong interest in colour, which would eventually lead to the greater abstraction of his later work.
