An early 19th century oil painting attributed to Edwin Cooper of Beccles depicting a water spaniel at work in the field, within a period gilt gesso swept frame.
English circa 1820.
Edwin Cooper's first major patron was Sir Thomas Gooch 4th. Bart. In 1803 he painted an equestrian portrait for Gooch's friend, the Duke of York, which was exhibited at the Royal Academy. He became the leading animal painter in the East of England and was a constant exhibitor at the Norwich Society of Artists.
