A superb study reflecting John Ruskin's dictum "Always return to nature to find beauty"
This is a wonderful example of high Victorian art and proof that you can buy absurdly good pictures for comparatively small sums of money.
The artist lived in Birmingham and exhibited 24 works at the RBSA (ROYAL BIRMINGHAM SOCIETY OF ARTISTS) between 1852 and 1875. He achieved only limited recognition in his lifetime and appears to have specialized in river landscapes and studies of country churchs.
Excellent. The canvas has been conserved and relined.
