Good quality, mid-19th Century mahogany Stick barometer in original condition; the arched top with very well engraved ivory register plates, signed by the makers and bearing Fahrenheit and Réaumur mercury thermometer and rack-and-pinion operated vernier slide. The slender trunk of ‘flame’ mahogany veneer laid, unusually on mahogany carcass, with original cistern barometer tube terminating behind turned cistern cover.

An illustrious partnership between Francis Watkins and William Hill, which prospered at premises at 5 Charing Cross from 1819-56, when it was acquired by Elliott Brothers.
