The frame with cushion moulded pediment is veneered with the finest flame mahogany and edge strung with ebony. The ebonised urn cistern cover is flanked by chamfered edges to each side.
The register plates, finely proportioned are signed by the maker above the states of the weather which are graduated from 27 to 31 inches.
The slim thermometer with its mahogany frame and bowed glass is set within the trunk and has scales for both Fahrenheit and Reamur readings.

* Watkins & Hill are listed in E. Banfield, Barometer Makers and Retailers, p.227 as working between 1819 and 1857. This partnership was formed when Jeremiah Watkins took Hill as a partner. They made a number of stick and wheel barometers and the business was taken over by Elliott Bros in 1857.
