Hardwood circular divination board (Opon Ifa), the raised rim carved with geometric motifs and at the top with a face representing Eshu, the messenger who acts as a medium between the human and the spirit worlds. The centre of the board is recessed for the various sacred materials used in the divination ceremony. The reverse has a small recessed circle at the centre. Mounted on a modern metal stand. Yoruba, Nigeria, late 19th century
