The Spoon is modelled in the Hanoverian, Fiddle & Thread Pattern and is double struck. The Spoon is of an exceptional gauge and weight and is engraved on the reverse with a contemporary Armorial surrounded by a cartouche of drapery mantling. The Arms are those of the William Thomas Beckford 1760-1844, English novelist, consummately knowledgeable art collector and reputed, at one stage, to be the richest commoner in England. He is remembered as the author of the Gothic novel Vathek, the builder of the lost Fonthill Abbey and Lansdown Tower in Bath and especially for his art collection. It is almost certain that this spoon was included in the Harley Street Sale of 1817.

Length: 8.5 inches, 21.25cm
