Most elegant early 19th Century mahogany Marine Stick Barometer in excellent condition; the slender case, square in cross-section with bowed sides, with ring suspension over unusual engraved silvered brass maker’s plate and matching barometer and Fahrenheit thermometer register plates below, protected by hinged door. The trunk, mounted on later brass gimbals, housing original constricted barometer tube and terminating in turned brass cistern cover.

Brother of the renowned cartographer, John, he quickly earned a strong reputation for excellent craftsmanship. Following his death in 1825, the business was continued into the 1890’s by his two nephews.
