Most attractive and unusual late 18th Century mahogany Stick Barometer in original condition; with moulded domed hood [more typical of the 2nd quarter of the Century] over engraved, silvered brass register plate, signed by the makers within the arch, bearing rack-and-pinion operated vernier, and protected by glazed cover. The trunk, of figured Cuban mahogany, strung in ebony, with original cistern barometer tube terminating behind urn-shaped cistern cover.

A noted Mathematical Instrument-maker with retail premises at 3 New Bond St. from c1780-1818, latterly in partnership with his son Alexander. The business was subsequently acquired, successively, by two ex-apprentices, William Hawkes Grice and the equally illustrious Charles Wastell Dixey.
