A choice William III Walnut and Floral Marquetry 8-day Longcase Clock of fine colour and patina. The 10" brass and silvered chapter ring with roman numerals and outside minute markers cast cherub head spandrel enclosing a matted centre with date aperture and subsidiary seconds dial signed William Knottesford, Londini. Fronting an eight day weight driven movement with four latched knopped and finned pillars and in-side count wheel strike on a bell. The top corners of the plates are chamfered, this was a feature of clocks made by Knottesford. The superb original case with rising hood, bulls-eye glass lenticle to the door, inlaid panelled sides and standing on bun feet. The bottom of the trunk door has original bone inlaid flowers. Circa 1685.
In beautiful condition having always been a rising hood, original base and fantastic original colour and patination, never been sanded or re-polishied.
