Unusual and good quality 19th Century mahogany Wheel Barometer, with ‘swan-neck’ pediment over case, veneered in well-patinated figured Cuban mahogany, inset with finely engraved, silvered brass mercury Fahrenheit bow-fronted detachable thermometer and signed 8-inch diameter main barometer dial.

Maw was an accomplished London Mathematical Instrument maker, who worked, latterly in partnership with his son, also William, from premises in Aldersgate from 1835-60.
