A charming portrait miniature of Miss Susan Buckle wearing a white dress with a square neckline edged in lace, a blue ribbon sash and a white bandeau in her powdered hair. She wears a pair of large pearl drop earrings. Watercolour in an oval gold watchtop frame with blue glass and a lozenge of plaited hair surrounded by seed pearls. The reverse of the painting is inscribed by the artist, "SW by Mr Naish/1796/Miss Susan Buckle (her maiden name), Mrs Withers, Mrs Prarce" (having married a second time). Added at a later date the inscription: "Died 20Sep 1833"
Additional Information: William Naish of Somerset, RA Schools 1788, he had a large practice and painted a lot of theatrical sitters. He exhibited at the RA 1786-1800. This portrait shows his typical blue shading around chin and mouth and strongly painted eyes.
