This is taken after a bust, made posthumously by Joseph Nollekens.
The reverse is inscribed "When ever the blushing marble head rears it self/ To tel lthe world around that life is dead/ Brittania weeping, pensive and forlorn/ Shall blushing say and were well he had never been born." Dr. Denison. Further inscribed in ink Honble. William Pitt/ taken with permission/ of lady Hester Stanhope. (Lady Hester Stanhope was the niece of Pitt).
Field is known to have taken another profile of Pitt, the silhouette formerly in Sue McKechnie collection is illustrated in her p. 472
