ETIENNE PROSPER BERNE- BELLECOURT
Born in 1838, Berne-Bellecour studied under François Picot and Félix Barrias at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He made a living painting portraits and landscapes, before concentrating on military and hunting scenes that earned his reputation. He began to exhibit at the Paris Salon from 1869 and won a gold medal in 1889. He died in 1910.
