Francois Gall was born in Kolozsvar, Transylvania of Hungarian parentage. He began his artistic studies at the Academia delle Belle Arti in Rome, and in 1936 settled in Paris where he studied under English painter Andre Devambez (1867-1944) at the National Academy of Fine Arts. In 1942, he became a naturalized French citizen. Gall is best known as an impressionist painter in the pure French tradition. He exhibited mainly in the Parisian galleries and his genre scenes were extremely popular.
