Son of Samuel Metayer, minister of La Patente Church, Crispin Street, Spitalfields, and Suzanna his wife. Appears in Denization List, 16 December 1687, with his parents, brother Samuel and sisters Mary (wife of David Willaume), Ann and Rachell.

Apprenticed to David Williams (Willaume) 29 September 1693. Free, 17 December 1700. First mark entered as largeworker, 18 December 1700.

With a sister, the wife of David Willaume, to whom he himself was apprenticed, and a wife from the house of Pierre Harache (in whatever connection) the close ties of the Huguenot workers of London at the time need little further emphasizing.

(Above information taken from Arthur Grimwade's London Goldsmiths 1697-1837).
