Born in Croatia, he studied in Paris and Belgium, a moved to Vennia in 1931. Fleeing the Nazi's he escaped to England in 1938. Married a Colonels daughter in 1939, and settled in Oxford. Becoming a British subject in 1948. With his growing reputation for portrait sculpture, he made works of high- profile figures, including members of the Royal family, and leading politicians such as Harold Macmillan, Harry S Truman, and most famously Sir Winston Churchill.
