Victor-Athanase Pierret

VAP is an interesting trademark and has been attributed to Volonge though Kochmann's dating of mid 18th C is a typo as it should be mid 19th C. The mark VAP has also been attributed by Tardy in Dictionnaire des Horologers Francais to Maison Pierret-Borel et Blin of Paris ca 1900. However the VAP mark is also attributed to Victor-Athanase Pierret (1806-93) in Tardy's La Pendule Francaise, he sold a half share of his business to Borel in 1865 who no doubt continued to use the trademark. The last explanation seems the most likely with the trade mark having been taken from his initials.
