Duffield, a Still Life painter, was born in Bath. He showed a premature talent for drawing and so was taken on as a pupil by George Doo, an engraver. A few years later, Duffield found himself another teacher, George Lance, while at the Royal Academy. After completing his course he returned to Bath then travelled to Antwerp where he worked for two years under Baron Wappers. Duffield moved back to London in the 1850s and exhibited frequently at the Royal Academy and The Society of British Artists. He died in Surry in 1863.
